Daniel Whitlock is terrified of going to sleep. And rightly so; he sleepwalks, with no awareness or memory of his actions. Including burning down Kenny Cooper's house - with Kenny inside it - after Kenny brutally beat him for being gay. Back in the tiny town of Logan after serving his prison sentence, Daniel isolates himself in a cabin in the woods and chains himself to his bed at night.

Like the rest of Logan, local cop Joe Belman doesn't believe Daniel's absurd defense. But when Bel saves Daniel from a retaliatory fire, he discovers that Daniel might not be what everyone thinks killer, liar, tweaker, freak. Bel agrees to control Daniel at night - for the sake of the other townsfolk. Daniel's fascinating, but Bel's not going there.

Yet as he's drawn further into Daniel's dark world, Bel finds that he likes being in charge. And submitting to Bel gives Daniel the only peace he's ever known. But Daniel's demons won't leave him alone, and he'll need Bel's help to slay them once and for all - assuming Bel is willing to risk everything to stand by him.

When All the World Sleeps (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Henry JA Rock Greg Tremblay Riptide Publishing Books

I was a little leery of reading When All The World sleeps because of reviews describing it as dark, depressing, bleak and angsty – but I guess, like anything else – it’s all in perspective. Yes there was a lot of trauma which definitely lends itself to dark and angsty overtones – but all in all – I found it more uplifting and hopeful. I felt Daniel’s story more than anything was one of resilience, survival, redemption and healing. I did get frustrated at times that he was so negative; but given everything he’s been through and the messages he got (and internalized) from everyone around him; it was a testament to the strength of his character that he didn’t actively sabotage his relationship with Bel and that he was genuinely open to things getting better for him. And they were awfully cute together – especially at the end – when more of Daniel’s authentic personality started to come out.

Daniel’s had a tough go of it; his (extremely rare and highly improbable) sleep disorder leaves him walking around and doing all sorts of stuff in his sleep that he doesn’t remember when he’s awake. Things take a turn even further south when – as a young man – he makes the mistake of propositioning (in his sleep) a rather homophobic former classmate; who’s solution to this obvious slight of astronomical proportions is to gather 3 friends –to torture and beat him to death (except that they get interrupted otherwise it would be a different story). Now here comes the perplexing part – when Daniel (in his sleep) retaliates by burning down the house (and killing) the main perpetrator – people in his little southern town – are upset. It seems that it’s apparently bad form when someone tries to kill you to retaliate with actual (but unintended) murder – who knew? I seriously was sick of listening to the whole little town piss and moan about how “poor Kenny didn’t deserve it” – like he was some innocent guy picked out by a serial killer while squeezing melons at the supermarket. “Poor Kenny” set events in motion and karma’s a b!tch.

Meanwhile, Daniel has served his time and is living as the town pariah, attempting to get through one night at a time without doing something he regrets and into his life (or burning cabin, second attempt on his life) walks young officer Belman – the Harnee’s kid - who crushed on the slightly older Daniel in school. Their romance develops slowly and there’s a good degree of caretaking on Bel’s part – but as he says later on – they’re a good fit for each other. Of course there’s lots of trials and tribulations to get them to their HEA – but I was satisfied with it.

When All the World Sleeps (Audible Audio Edition) Lisa Henry JA Rock Greg Tremblay Riptide Publishing Books Reviews

Though there are some unusual and seriously messed up things in this story, overall it was a very touching and human tale so close to real life that it was sometimes heartbreaking. It brings us into a world of pain and suffering, a hell on Earth, that might me led by many people in the real world. But it also shows that the human spirit can overcome just about a thing and that love is stronger than hate.
Good Book. Good Read. This is one of those books that you will want to read multiple times over the years. There are so many layers to the characters that one cannot absorb them in one read. Some of it is painful. Some of it joyful. Some of it is sickening. The Author blends all of these things into a story that captivates and titillates and and makes you go ahhh. I would give this 4.5 stars if it were possible.
Definitely an interesting premise which kept me intrigued for a while.

Then, it gets rather too mushy fir my particular taste and it doesn't let up.

Well written.
About halfway through this story, I knew that I'd always wonder what Bel & Daniel were up to now. Even when I got a little squeamish about some of the situations Daniel got into, I couldn't stop reading. (SPOILER)The writers do such a great job of telling this story, that by the time Daniel agrees to meet Clayton, I'm saying out loud "no, no no no!" with tears in my eyes.

Great read about flawed people in a flawed world!
Started off good with a different twist. I liked the main characters up to about the middle of the book. The main characters seemed to be original until they got together. I am not going to give anything away, other than to say I thought their relationship moved too quickly. It started off well enough, slow because of what had happened in the past and that one was damaged and the other a cop seeming to help out of duty, but then, boom, they are intimate. Really?

It felt rushed and for the price I felt cheated.
Let me first say that I read a lot of M/M romance books. I actually try to read a book a day so I have read a lot of them!
This was a book that had everything. The angst, frustration, stress and anticipation I felt while reading this was something that very few books have made me feel. I actually had to put it down a couple of times and just walk away from the story for a day or two to internalize the feelings was having. The story is good, the relationship between the two main characters was great. I really, really liked the book! I hope these two authors team up again. If you're on the fence about buying this book, take a chance on it. I highly recommend it.
What a great book though, and such a difficult story to tell. I have to admit I'm impressed by the authors. With this plot, it could have gone very wrong, very fast but I found that they handled it well.
It's not for the faint-hearted. There's not fluff, no rainbow colored world, it's violent and hard to read. There's no black and white but a lot of greys. But, it's all worth it, because it's a story that sticks. I probably won't re-read it because I enjoy re-reading fluff and sweet, but I'm sure I'll think about it here and then because it's just that kind of story
